Ruika Lin is a writer, musician, bereaved parent, and graduate student in counseling psychology based in the San Francisco Bay Area, by way of Chengdu and Charlottesville.

She engages in UX & product writing at work, and writes nonfiction essays outside (with poetry and stand up comedy material attempted). She writes about pregnancy loss, trauma and healing, psychotherapy, cross-cultural musings, the human condition, life’s work within the confines of capitalism, and films and music.

A meandering path took Ruika to this point in life. Attachment gains and losses — in identities, places, fields, disciplines, and communities — develop along the way.

Craving stimulation for both the left brain and right brain, she’s equally energized by economics and music, cell biology and existential therapy, Black Mirror and Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture.

She tends to think about individuals within the context of a system, and is more often empowered than defeated by the question “What difference can one make?
